Sega today announced Sega Superstars, an EyeToy-compatible PS2 title from Yuji Naka's Sonic Team set for its full global unveiling at next month's E3 in Los Angeles.
Superstars will bring the brilliant interactivity offered by Sony's webcam to Sonic Team's greatest franchises, with Virtua Fighter, Sonic and Samba De Amigo already confirmed.
Speaking on the announcement, legendary creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, Yuki Naka, said: "EyeToy is a whole new way of interfacing with a game and in this respect, a very interesting proposition for a game developer. I think there are many creative ways we'll be able to use the camera with great potential for fun. It's great to have the opportunity to reach a wider audience through a new system like this and I'm really excited to be developing a game like Sega SuperStars for EyeToy." Which is an awful lot of words when you're really saying nothing at all.
But we're certainly highly aroused by the prospect, and with the mighty Sonic Team on dev duties, this could be a title which even outstrips the ludicrous Samba De Amigo in the make-a-shambling-fool-of-yourself-for-fun stakes. No mean feat.
Expect a full 'body-on' preview direct from E3; meantime check out the first, fun-packed shots.
