Get the Xbox version of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and, should you be in possession of an Xbox Live account, you'll be able to take the sequel online. Super. But once you've sliced, diced, throat-slashed and generally dismembered your way through the single-player campaign, what exactly is waiting in the Xbox Live wings to soak up the early morning hours? Here's what, thanks to Ubisoft dishing the details...
Time Attack Mode
In this mode you race against the clock and try to complete the maps as quickly as possible. Maps will be divided into a number of checkpoints depending on their size, and you need to reach these checkpoints before the timer runs out. Pass a checkpoint and you'll get extra time added to the clock.
The Time Attack clock will be affected by the effects of the sands of time when activated by the player (rewind, slowdown, fast-forward). The player's score will be tabulated using various factors and if this score is the player's best to date, will be saved and given an official ranking on the Xbox Live scoreboard.
Arena Survival Mode
This mode will pit the player against waves of enemies in specially designed Arena rooms. These rooms will be relatively small as to offer a concentrated level of challenge. Depending on the map, players will have to defeat a predetermined number of monsters per round. Each round will have a time limit that will be reset once every enemy has been destroyed. Enemies will be introduced with a short cinematic at the beginning of every wave.
The waves themselves should increase in both amount and difficulty of monsters to kill. In order to maintain a high level of challenge, the player will have no means of regaining health. The Arena mode clock will be affected by the effects of the sands of time when activated by the player (rewind, slowdown, fast-forward). The clock will pause during introductory cinematics. The player's score will be tabulated using various factors and if this score is the player's best to date, will be saved and given an official ranking on the Xbox Live scoreboard.
Expect downloadable content to be made available post release, Ubisoft planning to release new maps for Time Attack and Arena Survival modes. Currently, the publisher has one map for each mode planned. Hopefully there are more in the pipeline.
A scoreboard is linked to the Time Attack and Arena Survival modes, players given a score and ranking for both Xbox Live modes based on performance. You'll be able to compare your prowess with that of other players, the scoreboards listing the top players on a per map basis. And, you'll be able to keep track friends' scores as every scoreboard will have a section devoted to the top players in the player's friends list.
Finally, Warrior Within supports Xbox Live's friends list set of tools.
