Age of Empires III has been officially announced by Ensemble Studios, the developer confirming the title in the wake of first details hitting the internet. Accompanying the official word on the latest instalment in the RTS series are first impressive screenshots from the game, which we've uploaded to this page for you to pass mince pies over.
The announcement reveals, not surprisingly, that Microsoft Game Studios is handling publishing for AoE III, with the plan currently to ship the game in the second half of this year.
Not an awful lot else is spoken of outside of the details we brought you yesterday, although we're informed that the title "picks up where Age of Empires II: Age of Kings left off, placing gamers in the position of a European power determined to explore, colonize and conquer the New World".
"This time period features stunning scenes, from towering European cathedrals to courageous tribes of Native Americans, and spectacular combat with Industrial Age units like rifled infantry, cavalry and tall ships bristling with cannons," says Mr Press Release, adding that: "Age of Empires III will excite strategy gamers with new game-play elements, including the concept of a "Home City," new civilizations, units, technologies and an immersive new single-player campaign that will span three generations."
