You may recall a couple of days ago that we brought word on speculation doing the rounds that Bohemia Interactive had decided to rename its Operation Flashpoint sequel Armed Assault. Well, it turns out that was a load of codswallop, as the developer has now revealed Armed Assault as a brand new modern-combat game boasting the studio's trademark realism touch. (And it looks like what were thought Op Flashpoint 2 screens are actually shots from this new game).
Bohemia says of Armed Assault that it will "reacquaint gamers with the ultimate in realistic, combat gaming," and that it "features a new engine with a fresh modern setting. Freedom of action and immersive complex environments, blended with a unique touch of total simulation. Massive environments (like over 100 sq. km.) should be expected, along with smart AI enemies that try to outthink and outmanoeuvre you and your squad, military and civilian gear and vehicles that can be utilised, multiplayer and a built-in mission editor.
Armed Assault should be with us at the end of the year, although publishing details are yet to be confirmed.
