As mentioned some time ago, John Carmack has been working on a mobile-phone based Doom game in the vein of Final Fantasy tactics - and it's now a reality, thanks to a deal between id Software and global publisher of wireless entertainment applications JAMDAT that will last several years.
Doom RPG, as the game is called, is based on the original Doom but ditches FPS action in favour of tactical, turn-based combat gameplay. As you can probably guess, the title drops you into a Martian research facility overrun by demonic forces. Doom's weapon line-up will be present, as will the classic's enemies.
It's set to be released at around the same time as the upcoming Doom film; and the deal between id Software and JAMDAT already includes a second id mobile game, but as yet there are no details as to what it will be.
