As much as we love glossy, eye-popping trailers, we're starting to find it slightly disconcerting that the race for next-gen supremacy is being fought with barely a smattering of in-game footage in sight. Now, we can knock another name onto the list with KOEI's release of a movie for their forthcoming Playstation 3 title, Fatal Inertia.
As pretty as it is, we're more excited by its obvious influences from Nintendo's classic F-Zero series. While comparisons are almost unavoidable (just check out the video at the bottom of the page to see what we mean), it looks like KOEI's newly formed Canadian studio is attempting to raise the bar for next-gen futuristic racing thrills using Fatal Inertia's physics engine.
According to KOEI, the game's physics use "the power of the PS3 to create weapons and environments that are unlike anything seen before." Not just limited to its effect on the vehicles, Fatal Inertia's physics engine also effects your surroundings too: "The beautiful natural environments aren't just scenery - they are there to be used in combat, and rock walls can quickly become avalanches to use against your opponents."
KOEI's also promising a huge range of weapons and a wealth of fully customisable vehicles when the game launches alongside the PS3 in Japan next year. Vroom!
