We're long-standing fans of classic British sci-fi comic 2000AD and welcomed Rebellion's acquisition which saw the Oxford-based devs team up with the galaxy's greatest comic to produce games based on classic 2000AD heroes like Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog and of course Rogue Trooper.
While 2003's Dredd versus Death, wasn't an exactly auspicious beginning, we had higher hopes for the Rogue Trooper game, which is due out this autumn. Rogue plus his three dead bio-chipped buddies Helm, Gunnar and Bagman who are embedded in er helmet, gun and backpack surprisingly, would seem to offer up some interesting gameplay opportunities in the battle for Nu Earth. We were intrigued to see what they would come up with.
Eidos and Rebellion have on the whole kept pretty quiet about this one during its protracted development, but two new screenshots have emerged today which we present here for your delectation. However we must admit these two shots don't exactly fill us with glee, as the graphics look fairly basic and a little uninspiring.
Still, it's probably never best to judge anything too harshly from static screenshots and we're hoping that Rebellion can really sprinkle a little of that magic fairy dust over the Trooper and make the gameplay sparkle on Xbox, PS2 and possibly PC.
Shouldn't be too long before we have a chance to find out for ourselves but in the meantime you can find out a little more about the Rogue Trooper game by clicking here.
