The guys over at Bungie are notoriously protective of the lore and backstory they've created for the Halo series, even producing an encyclopedia of Halo knowledge for the staff working on the forthcoming Halo movie. It's no surprise to find then, that even the Halo-inspired Dead or Alive 4 combatant, Spartan 458, has her own detailed story.
According to Bungie's website, Spartan 458 or rather 'Nicole' as she used to be known in civilian life, was born in the year 2531 in the city of New Legaspi on Mars. At a young age she was abducted by the Office of Naval Intelligence and enrolled in the Spartan II program, a military product to augment and hone the perfect soldier.
Apparently, when preparing for a top-secret mission Nicole's ship became caught in a strange slip-space anomaly, conveniently creating a "bubble" in the space-time continuum and sending her back to the 21st century - or today as we colloquially call.
You may think that the last part sounds a bit silly, but that's because it's actually supposed to. "How can we say all that with a straight face? Shut up is how," say Bungie on their website, fighting to remove tongue from cheek. "How does this explain why she's fighting a schoolgirl in a prehistoric oasis? Silence fool!"
Dead or Alive 4 is due for release next month and is going to be a key title for the console's success in the West and especially in Japan.
