On Monday, we reported that word was filtering from Activision's quarterly financial conference call suggesting that all planned console versions of Lionhead's superb The Movies had been canned, thanks to lower-than-expected sales of the PC title. Now though, a Lionhead rep has revealed that work is still continuing on the console iterations of The Movies, although Activision will not be publishing the games.
Speaking on the official Lionhead forums, the rep disclosed: "Activision will not be publishing the console version of The Movies but that does not mean the project is dead." Originally, versions for PS2, Xbox and GameCube were scheduled for release following the PC game, although news on these console counterparts had been thin on the ground, prior to Activision's revelations this week.
Lionhead's spokesman also reaffirmed the developer's support for the franchise, confirming that the widely-rumoured game expansion pack is still in development: "Rest assured that the team at Lionhead Studios are as dedicated to The Movies as they've ever been; an expansion pack is currently in development (which will be announced very shortly) and we are continuing to support The Movies Online!"
