LEGO Star Wars 2 gets official thumbs up

Jedi mind bricks return as LucasArts blows the beans off sequel LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy

It's been widely reported that LucasArts is to unleash a sequel to fondly regarded game LEGO Star Wars, but now the company has finally got around to officially announcing the title - LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.

Development's being handled by Traveller's Tales once again which is bringing the game to several platforms - PS2, PSP, Xbox, GameCube, DS, GBA and PC - and, as the title suggests, the sequel covers Star Wars movies A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The hit combination of brick-fuelled action, puzzles and humour return and this time around players will additionally get to pootle around in vehicles and stick their blocky butt-cheeks on ride-able creatures.

Plenty of other features are being stuffed in too, with the likes of Free Play mode, allowing you to customise over 50 new playable characters by switching body parts to create your own Star Wars heroes, accompanied by the ability to use save games from LEGO Star Wars to unlock up to a further 56 characters in certain platform versions. Plus, expect "cool new character-specific attacks and maneuvers, playable mini-kit vehicles, an optional advanced mode for experienced players and more," says LucasArts.

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is due this autumn.
