GDC: Shadow Of The Colossus high fives

PS2-exclusive proves a giant among men with five top GDC trophies

Sony's unworldly giant-basher Shadow Of The Colossus, which has 'ultra amazing cult classic' slapped all over it, has walked away from the Games Developer's Choice Awards, San Jose, with an incredible five gongs.

The awards ceremony, voted for by members of the IGDA (International Game Developers Association), hailed the game with titles for Game of the Year, Best Game Design, Best Character Design and Best Visual Arts, while also slipping it one of three Innovation Awards alongside Nintendogs and Harmonix-developed virtual axe grinder Guitar Hero.

Amusingly, the game's design chief Fumito Ueda was so modest, he failed to have an English acceptance speech ready, clearly not expecting so much acclaim for the title that beat back the likes of Movies and God Of War in the Game of the Year category.

Other notable winners include mind-bender Psychonauts scooping Best Writing, Guitar Hero winning Best Audio, and Nintendogs Best Technology.
