It's hard to believe, but there hasn't been a Colin McRae rally game for the past two years. We reckon the developer must have been in need of a good long break. Fortunately, the best-selling series is set to return in 2007 with the most diverse selection of off-road events ever seen. In addition to exhilarating new hill climb and rally cross events, you'll also be able to tackle dangerous gravel, mud and dirt racing challenges, set all around the world. We're also promised a greater emphasis on beat-the-clock racing and a stack more head-to-head races with multiple cars on the track.
Although Sony still has the WRC licence, Codemasters promises a large number of real-life rallying competitions and all the official cars from the rallying circuit. The game's circuits are also based on reallife roads and locations.
"The all-new Colin McRae Rally will be a real evolution for the series and offer a massive variety of off-road events - more than any other single- championship rally game has before," reveals Gavin Raeburn, studio head at Codemasters. "It's being designed to offer a totally accessible, highspeed and adrenaline-fuelled ride for newcomers to the series, yet race-hardened McRae players will be able to delve under the bonnet and immerse themselves in the most challenging of competitions."
Let's hope the two-year break has been spent well. We certainly expect to see big advancements in car physics and handling. The power of Xbox 360 and the talent of the McRae team could be a heavenly combination for racing fans in 2007.
