After the successful North American launch two weeks ago, Nintendo's Wii has finally reached Japanese stores, attracting huge crowds and reportedly selling out all its 400,000 allotted consoles.
Nintendo of America previously reported sales of 600,000 units in North America, bringing the total Worldwide tally to 1 million Wiis sold.
While official sales numbers are forthcoming, considering the large interest for the console in Japan and the TV ad explosion that's been going down for the last few months, it's not hard to believe the barrage of reports pointing at a country-wide sell out for Wii.
One report said that famous Tokyo electronics store Bic Camera had over 3000 Japanese punters outside hoping to get their hands on Nintendo's new console, but in the early morning many had to be turned away due to lack of stock.
600,000 more units are promised for the Land of the Rising Sun before the end of the year, so it could turn out to be a very merry Christmas indeed for Nintendo.
In case you've been living in a small underground bunker, the Wii hits European turf this Friday, and you can read our reviews of most of the launch line-up over on the Nintendo channel.
