Conan MMOG unsheathes Xbox 360 blade

Funcom's Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has been officially announced for Microsoft's console

Based on the fantasy universe created by author Robert E. Howard, the game actually combines single-player and MMOG elements, players experiencing the first stages of the title solo before stepping out into the wide, massively multiplayer world. Age of Conan features the common RPG elements you'd expect, but it's very much action-focussed with combat based around "fast reaction gaming", as the developer describes it.

Funcom sets the scene: "In a world filled with cruel gods, mythical creatures, lost civilizations and a struggling human race, the mighty barbarian has finally seized the throne as king of Aquilonia. But Conan's rule is on the brink of chaos, spiraling towards the doom of ancient evils. In this twisted fantasy world, dark magic and brutal combat lurk around every corner, and each man and woman must carve their own unique destiny under Conan's reign.

"In the true vision of Robert E. Howard's dark universe it's now time for you to become a messenger of death."

"...we aim to create a unique, brutal and powerful online gaming experience", Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom has explained.

Age of Conan on Xbox 360 has only just gone into production, according to the developer, so it's likely that the already announced PC version will hit first next year.
