Illegal Aliens: It's 1951 and razor-mawed aliens have invaded Earth. Resistance takes place in an alternate timeline where World War 2 is replaced by Cosmic War 1. The invaders are known only as the Chimera and they're ruthless, technologically- advanced and pig-ugly. Among their brood are wall-climbing insects, long-limbed bio-mech killers and immense bipedal walkers. Your goal? Kill them all.
Human tech has a 1950's "Dieselpunk" feel. This gives the game a stylish retrofit look, although the tech is actually more advanced than our own Earth's. Probably because the world's nations have pooled their resources to create more effective war machines - fighting the alien instead of each other.
PANIC ON THE STREETS
Part of the game takes place across the war-torn streets of... Manchester. Yes, it seems the aliens have invaded Manc-land and you'll end up fighting them off and dodging 50s-style red phone booths that've been tossed through the air by nearby explosions.
It could be yet another clichéd sci-fi FPS, but the unique setting, Insomniacs skill and the next-gen looks give cause for optimism.
