Phantom Hourglass to be the first online Zelda game

Aonuma confirms the new multiplayer mode will allow for online play

The new multiplayer mode in Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, revealed at last week's GDC, will allow players to face off via the internet.

The version of the game CVG play-tested last week only demonstrated the direct DS-to-DS wireless link up.

But speaking to Game Informer, Zelda boss Eiji Aonuma confirmed the title's compatibility with the online Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service, making this the first game in the 20-year old franchise to allow for online play.

The game is due out in late 2007. That is if it doesn't suffer any further delays.
