Square Enix has pencilled in the Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy III for release in Europe on May 4, which will please many of the envious eyes in the CVG office looking at our shiny import version.
The original NES FF III never made it over to Western shores so this will be the first time non-import monkeys will be able to experience the early years of Final Fantasy.
Obvious updates include fancy 3D visuals and a completely revamped control system using the DS's touch screen - though you can use the d-pad as well if you're not happy.
"The arrival of Final Fantasy III on Nintendo DS showcases the power of the hardware and proves that no compromise has to be made in order to create an adventure of this magnitude for a handheld system," said Square Enix CEO and president John Yamamoto. "With over 1.4 million copies already shipped in Japan and North America, we are sure that Final Fantasy III will be a big success in Europe too."
Look out for our review and exclusive interview with producer Hiromichi Tanaka a bit closer to launch. The review seems to have taken Gav about 4 months to do.
