April 10, 2007 - First gamplay details revealed
GTA IV-branded Game Informer lands in subscribers hands, revealing the first concrete GTA IV gameplay details including:
- Lead character's name is Niko Bellic, and he's believed to be Croatian or Serbian.
- Multiplayer is be announced at some point in the future.
- Players can use a mobile to call your contacts.
- There are no planes as the game takes place in one city only.
- You'll have more choice than in previous games, though you will still be taking orders from people.
- The story is said to unfold in many different ways giving you more choice and control over the outcome.
- The structure of the storyline is said to be "quite different" to previous games.
April 2, 2007 - First artwork emerges
Teaser cover of a US mag reveals the first GTA IV artwork - and the promise of new details and screenshots when the publication arrives at the end of the month.
East European main character: The narrator in the trailer is a Russian character whose background seems to revolve around murder, smuggling and erm, selling people.
RAGE engine: As has always been heavily assumed, the next GTA ditches Renderware to make use of the graphically-spectacular Table Tennis RAGE engine (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine).
The funny is back: proving that GTA hasn't lost it's trademark humour are the plethora of fake adverts available for glimpse in the video, including upcoming TV show "America's Next Top Hooker" and "Sprunk", a beverage we probably won't picking up on the next trip round Tesco.
