Back in 2005 developer TimeGate Studios (Kohan, F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point) revealed it had licensed Epic's Unreal Engine 3 for a sci-fi FPS called Section 8.
Two years on and it's now emerged via Game Informer that the title is very much alive and kicking and has been signed up by recently formed publisher GameCock.
Originally, Section 8 was billed as a shooter that whisked players away to a war-torn future, the game's name referring to a squad of elite infantry boosted with powered battle armour keen to tackle the toughest of missions. It was said the title would combine FPS action with strategy and tactical elements - and it appears this is still the case.
"Mankind's greatest battle is about to take place on the war-torn planets of tomorrow. To counter the attack on the frontier colonies, Earth sends their elite unit of powered armor infantry - Section 8 - to fight against the onslaught", Game Informer says of the scenario.
Adel Chaveleh, President and CEO of TimeGate, describes Section 8 as the developer's most ambitious project to date.
Section 8 is due 2009 on console and PC. Expect to hear and see more when E3 arrives.
