You know the drill - cough up early for an MMO and invariably you'll be clasping a number of extra goodies in your adventuring hands that lesser mortals who buy the game on release miss out on.
And it's no different with Guild Wars: Eye of the North, the first expansion to grace ArenaNet's MMO series.
Out on July 20, the pre-order pack will not only grant you access to a sneak peek weekend for Guild Wars: Eye of the North set to occur August 24-26, 2007, but you'll get your hands on exclusive weapons (well, as exclusive as these things can be in pre-order schemes) the Glacial Blade, the Hourglass Staff and the Darksteel Longbow.
Plus, a trial DVD contains all three previously released Guild Wars campaigns - Guild Wars, Guild Wars: Factions and Guild Wars: Nightfall - which are playable for a period of 10 days or 14 hours, whichever expires first.
The sneak peek weekend, NCSoft tells us, will let you "log into the game for a first look at Eye of the North. Players will be able to explore the Far Shiverpeaks region of the world, home of the barbaric Norn. Everything players obtain during the Sneak Peek Weekend, including items, XP, Heroes, and loot, will be permanent and available when the expansion goes live."
Guild Wars: Eye of the North releases on August 31 and, sticking with the Guild Wars subscription-free model, is compatible with any of the three previously released campaigns.
New content includes 18 multi-level dungeons, 150 new skills across all ten Guild Wars professions, ten new heroes, 40 new armour sets and new items, weapons and titles.
The expansion's storyline follows up on events told in the original Guild Wars campaign, and is set in previously unexplored areas of the continent of Tyria.
And of course it paves the way for Guild Wars 2, players able to preserve their accomplishments and titles from Guild Wars, Factions and Nightfall and reclaim them in the full sequel.
