All eyes are on WipEout HD for good reason - it's easily one of the most stunning-looking games on the PS3's upcoming list. Here's the proof!
A few months back we posted videos of an extremely early version of the futuristic hover racer which looked pretty good back then. But since then, the game has literally come on leaps and bounds, and looks flipping incredible.

Add to that the slick neon lights of the background cities, that cool blue streak from the back of the ship's jets, some nice explosions and the silky 60 frames per second rate and we've got a real game on our hands.
The first movie shows off the Vineta K circuit in a the (slightly too pedestrian) Venom mode, so you can actually admire the passing scenery.
Then, for the second video, we crank the speed up to Rapier on the equally awesome-looking Anulpha Pass course and give you a taster of the game's raw pace.
Stay tuned for more videos of some of the later courses and hands-on impressions soon.

Fast and good-looking, just like me. The robotic voices of XL / 2097 ought to be reintroduced to the WipEout series.

hmm.. I have wipeout pulse for PSP. This game appears to have same tracks, music, voices etc. It just looks a bit nicer in HD. I would of thought that the developers would have made more of an effort for its PS3 baptism!

it is kind of half a game though..
1.5 type of thing. the full blown wipeout on ps3 is supposed to be different

Even though the game looks and sounds great, you know they are going to spoil it with crappy sixaxis controls.
And I agree, for the PS3 version it should have something never before seen in a WipeOut game. Otherwise it may as well just be 2097HD.

its called wipeoutHD. to signify that it ISNT anything new, bar the HD graphics. this was always supposed to be a glorified wipeout of olds.

hmmm... being familiar with 2097 only , I am perhaps unqualified to comment on this, but something doesn't look right about it. Scraping the sides seems wrong, and the general motion of the vehicle seems to locked to the dead center of the screen to give a real sense of movement. in 2097 the ship could get to either side of the screen in extremes.

I guess the point i'm trying to make is that this seems like a port of wipeout pulse for the psp, given its design similarities. Its hard to see the nostalgia given pulse was only released in the uk before xmas!

Just looks like any other Wipeout, no worse, no better, but thats my gripe with it, wheres the progress? Familliararity(?) breeds contempt.

I have very high hopes for this. Finally a reason to use my PS 3 for games instead of films and HD tv shows

it finally looks like the 'game' from the movie hackers.

The game looks incredible. It's a day 1 purchase for me. I've been a huge fan of the Wipeout series and Wipeout 3 for some reason was my favorite but this game looks like the best in the series. Sadly I never played Wipeout 2097 as I first played my first Wipeout game back in 2000.
I tried Wipeout Pure and while it's a technical marvel on the PSP I had trouble controlling the race craft in the game. Either the controls were off for me or the tracks were too small. I decided to skip Wipeout Pulse for that reason.
When is the release of this game on PSN? I can't wait.

ANOTHER ps3 must have , this game looks awsome but the male voice should be changed (sounds like an australian gay robot) although i kinda like the female one

As much as I love the wipeout series (and I'm definitely getting this one!) its still not Rollcage Stage II is it.
Now that was a game the required quick reflexes.

I been waitin for this game for ages...and to be honest, i just feel that they don;t know how to take this concept any further. Visually it seems that they have failed to miss that grey is not the most exciting of colours, but from what i''ve seen from some of the video and still shots there's more than plenty of it. This really should be a ground breaking scorcher of a game, but i get the feeling there's gonna be a tad dissapointment ahead for me. I just hope this is a stop gap for something much better in the future for wipeout. One major reason for anyone wantin to play this game is the surreal backdrops and futuristic feel which takes has always placed it far from the generic wanna-be copies out there not to mention the never disapointing music tracks, which is one thing it still has in its favour in my view here. Another major pain in the ass is having to listen to the voice starting the race... it just doen't sound like a voice that belongs to wipeout, it should at least have a digitised sound, or like the previous wipout voice which kinda sounded like some japanese chick.. it kinda goes with the scene.. This guy just sounds as though it could just be your next door neighbour, then there;s the TV presenter-like female voice shouting out the weapons pick-ups and warnings.... Absolutely zero thought has been involved here, can it really be so hard to have been at least a little inventive here..
