THQ makes Dawn of War II official - set for spring '09

Non-linear single-player experience and fully co-op multiplayer campaign for sequel

Well, we knew it was coming, but THQ has finally officially revealed Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II.

The sequel is in development at Relic - for PC - which handled the original game, and that was a title that featured ideas that paved the way for the studio's acclaimed RTS Company of Heroes.

According to first official details, Dawn of War II features a non-linear single-player campaign and a fully-co-op multiplayer campaign, the sequel built on an enhanced version of Relic's Essence Engine 2.0, which apparently is sh*t hot.

THQ says that Space Marine and Orkz factions feature - which we already knew - but hints that additional races WILL appear in the game. It's just not confirming which, as yet.

"Powered by the re-vamped Essence Engine 2.0, the next evolution of Relic's proprietary game engine made famous in the award winning Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II will deliver fast-paced RTS action with ferocious melee and ranged combat in fully destructible environments", the publisher enthuses.

And folks that bought Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm will get to participate in an invitation-only multiplayer beta program for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II set to take place at a future date.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II's been slated for release in spring 2009.
