MS on GTA IV: 'Gamers clearly prefer 360 version'

Microsoft says 360 version has sold more than 100,000 copies over the PS3 version

In what can only be a reaction to yesterday's news from Sony that PS3 has overtaken 360 in Europe, Microsoft has fired out an email claiming an early victory in the GTA IV format war.

According to MS, data released by ELSPA/Chart-Track shows Xbox 360 Week One sales at 514,000 copies sold in the UK. The PS3 version of the game sold 413,000 copies, "clearly demonstrating that gamers prefer the Xbox 360 version" says the release.

"In the past week the bar has been set even higher for what the growing entertainment medium of gaming can deliver in the way of immersive, living worlds and exciting social experiences," said Microsoft Europe boss Chris Lewis.

"Today it has become clear that consumers are finding Xbox 360 the best way to experience Liberty City and we expect this trend to continue, especially with exclusive episodes coming to Xbox 360 in the autumn."
