We hinted at it in PSM3#100, over a month ago - mentioning "it's not the songs, but their delivery gadget that amazes... imagine sitting out an alert while listening to soft jazz" - but, finally, Konami have confirmed that Snake uses an in-game ipod (fully branded and accurate) in MGS4, with classic MGS tunes collected as hidden items as the game progresses. And the amazing product tie-ins don't stop there...
Snake will drink branded Regain energy drinks (a bit like Red Bull), drive an official Triumph motorcycle (in one of the game's stand-out moments) and disguise himself in - if you can unlock it - Altair's outfit from Assassin's Creed. Once again, we loudly hinted as such in PSM3#101, suggesting the 'April Fool' MGS4/Assassin's Creed trailer was "less of a joke than people think". Konami are also producing real-life version's of Sunny's Frog egg timer clock, as revealed in a previous issue of... oh, you know.
Most impressively, they're producing MGS4 T-shirts you'd actually wear - in conjunction with retailer UniQlo, according to reports from the 'MGS4 Wrap Party' recently held in Japan. Click the screenshots bar to your right to see more.
Amazing, eh? It's perhaps even better than Rockstar's branded Pisswasser bottles, as reported on this site a week ago. Perhaps.
Don't miss PSM3#102 for the definitive MGS4 review. We're the only magazine who've finished it twice - the second time combing for secrets, gameplay balance and easter eggs - and we'll deliver the first, mercifully spoiler-free, independent review on 5th June, a week before the game goes on-sale on 12th June. Oh, and we'll have some special MGS themed gifts, but more on that soon.
Just when you think GTA4 rules the universe, Kojima reminds us why we love MGS so much. Damn, dig that fluro T-shirt.
