The Wii version of Call of Duty: World at War will boast a control option designed specifically for the Wii Zapper, Treyarch confirmed to CVG.
Senior producer Noah Heller said that the Wii version is being worked on by a dedicated in-house team. "It's a special team at Treyarch - not some out-sourced team. Not some group living in another country. These guys live, eat and breathe Wii," he said. No sniggering at the back.
He went on: "They're doing a lot of control work and developing a lot of special technology to make sure you're able to find the enemy as quickly as possible, and we'll be supporting the Zapper."
He didn't explain exactly how the controls will work this way, but did acknowledge that, with just three buttons at your disposal when using the Zapper, getting a good control system using it is a challenge.
"We'll be showing the Wii [version] soon," said Heller. That means E3 to us.

Well that is to be expected of Wii FPS games really, the Wii is made for Point n Clicks and FPS shooters.
I won't be getting it, obviously. I'll wait to see if it is any good, then may pick up the PS3 version. I somehow doubt it though.

Its FPS, so you point and shoot...
Its not really much more complex than that, so it should work perfectly with the zapper...

Sounds good to me.
Make it better than COD 3 please..

Let us hope that there's still a control method that makes use of the Nunchuck's motion sensor, rather than ignoring it completely just for the stupid Zapper.

Good to know there's another developer out there making an effort with FPS & controls on the Wii.

Actually, I went around town and in 7 different high street stores both the wii and the controllers were in stock... plus there's a large install base already! So I'd say it'd be a good move, if it turns out to be any good, that is!

has a ps2 version been confirmed yet?
if so,that'll be the basis of the wii version which along with the removal of 4-player online co-op kills any thought of a purchase (there's a gimped 2-player mode but i don't know if it's online).
later addition: maybe it won't be the usual botched ps2 port....
"Speaking to VideoGamer.com at the official unveiling of the game in London, the developer behind CoD3 revealed that the Wii version will use a ported version of the Modern Warfare engine..."
i'm slightly interested now,if only to see the modern warfare engine:wii version.
on a side issue, anyone heard the one about ubisoft using the unreal engine 3 for red steel 2?
i nearly died laughing. ubisoft putting effort into their wii software? joke of the decade. it's got to be..

it'll be good to get me wii-zapper out from the hamster cage where bob and joan are using it as a novelty slide.

The Game's own "zapper" is quite a good alternative, as long as you do some creative super-gluing to make sure the trigger doesn't break after half an hour (all you need is some strong plastic, superglue, a little knife and a small screwdriver). It looks more like a little Uzi. I've painted mine gun-coloured (alright, perhaps I have a little too much time on my hands!).
I'm really hoping COD 5 is good; about time there was a decent shooter that makes use of the "light-gun*" capabilities of the Wii.
*Yeah, yeah, I know!

i think some of these companies have looked at what high voltage are doing and have probably started to think that when their product will go up against something like that, they won't stand a chance. i mean we getting the conduit, 2 other unannounced high voltage games, mad world, tenchu 4, now cod 5 , red steel 2 whenever it comes out lol. i think things are turning around for us core gamers and with whatever nintendo has to show at e3. i know that we will still get our much loved lol(f**king hated) dogz and catz games but hopefully it should be weighed out with more quality games.

Sorry, but I'll be picking this up for PS3. Since owning my PS3 I've totally lost interest in wii. The gimped out graphics do make a difference. I'm going back to my hardcore roots, and the graphical fidelity really makes the difference to me now. No plastic gun add on is going to draw me back to wii. Don't know why they're bothering with a wii version anyway.. Maybe the should concentrate on making the PS3/360/PC version brilliant and forget the wii. Unless they know it won't sell well on the next gen machines and they need to make a bit of money back by selling the game to the huge install base of the wii.
