Konami has unveiled the new frontman of PES 2009, Argentinian forward Lionel Messi, and it's also gone and released the first footage of this year's version.
Messi, who plays for FC Barcelona along with his national side, will replace Cristiano Ronaldo on the front of this year's box and in advertisements. We really can't decide which of them is most disliked by the English.
Details on the next game are still very thin on the ground, but Konami promises "new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements," as well as a "stunning graphical update" (watch the movie to judge the last one for yourself).
"Most modern players are aware of the realism and skill of the PES series," Messi said of the deal. "It is a game that truly mirrors the pace and control of real football, and as a die-hard fan of the series, I am delighted to be working with Konami on the latest version."
PES 2009 is due out on most platforms in the autumn, and Wii spring next year. Let's see if it can snatch the crown back from FIFA.
