Earlier today we reported on a Variety story which claimed that Gears of War dev and Unreal Engine studio Epic Games is in line to be acquired by film financier Legendary Pictures.
We contacted the developer and, as expected, have received a no comment on the report from Epic president Mike Capps, who told CVG this afternoon that "we don't comment on acquisition rumours."
The statement doesn't really add weight to or detract from the rumours, but Capps certainly didn't rule out the possibility of a buyout.
According to Variety, 'multiple sources close to the companies confirmed that talks are under way'.
Legendary Pictures was responsible for massive comic book movies The Dark Knight and Superman Returns, and is currently in charge of the Gears of War movie too.
"We have announced we're partnering with them on the Gears movie," Capps added. "Thomas Tull [Legendary Pictures president] plays Gears all the time, and we're huge fans of their movies, so we're very excited to work with them on that project."
We'll keep you updated with any developments on this one as soon as we get them.
In other Epic news, the first Gears of War 2review is in.
