More than 2,500 people queued outside HMV, London Oxford Street last night to get there hands on World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King. We were in bed.
The queues not only topped those of the last WoW add-on, Burning Crusade, but blockbuster game launches like Halo 3 and even the launch of the PlayStation 3.
As well offering an actual excuse to dress up like an orc, the event offered WoW fans the chance to eye Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime, who said "We've been looking forward to these launch events all year."
The add-on expands WoW's continents with icy domain Northrend, as well as adding new professions and the elite Death Knight class. Our tech manager is already 12 hours in (probably).
It's hardly surprising that the masses turned up when you consider that more than 11 million players around the world have subscribed to the MMO. If we were blizzard, we'd sow a cape out of cash
