Beat-'em-ups have somewhat lost the spotlight to adventure and, more recently, FPS games over the years, but the fighting genre is on its way back up, says Midway.
Games like Street Fighter II, Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat were some of the biggest games of their era, in contrast to nowadays where games like Gears of War and Halo are the most hyped.
Midway's Mortal Kombat brand manager Mark Cook, however, cites a "resurgence" in the genre.
"Super Smash Bros. [Brawl] was a fantastic game, Soul Calibur [IV] did very well, Street Fighter [IV] is clearly a big one next year, and we shouldn't forget Tekken ," he told MCV magazine.
"I think there's a resurgence in the genre, especially compared to recent years where other genres such as FPS have dominated," added Cook, who believes Midway's latest, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, will capitalise on the rise of the genre.
There are plenty of screens and videos of it here - how well do you think it'll do?
