A new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game might beat the stigma surrounding licensed titles if the developer's track record is any indication of quality.
Ubisoft said Monday that it would be publishing an "all-new" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles videogame for Wii, developed by Game Arts, one studio that played a major role in creating the multi-million-selling, critically-acclaimed Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii.
Screenshot files refer to the game as "TMNT Smash Up," although Ubisoft made no mention of a finalized title in its press statement.
Ubisoft described the game as a four-player fighting action affair. It is slated to launch in the fall, marking 25 years of TMNT.
The publisher previously only briefly mentioned in its last earnings report that the new TMNT game was in the works, and is slated to release in fiscal 2009-2010. Ubisoft said the game will be the first not linked to a TMNT movie, TV show or comic book.
In 2007, Ubisoft release TMNT, which was based on a theatrical release.
The TMNT franchise has been tied closely with videogames for years, with titles appearing in arcades, NES and current-generation consoles.
