Top 20 Nintendo happenings

Feature: If it's Nintend-on, it's Nintend-in

There's something of a musical theme this month, with a nice spot of Mega Man remixing, some completely unexpected game-related songs and what we think is a professional Japanese Rhythm Tengoku concert. Next time it'll be all food or cakes, if we can find enough of them. Or maybe shoes or scarves or papercraft or weapons. No promises, though.

THE SINGING REVIEWER
If any of us on NGamer could sing without setting off the office fire alarms, we might do some musical reviews like this. Or maybe not. We have no talent and this is pretty unique. Listen to some folk-tinted musings on games here and follow Rebecca's Twitter updates. Link

TENGOKU CONCERT
Here's one of the best songs from Rhythm Tengoku Gold performed live, with a real audience taking the place of the monkeys who clap and jump in time with the music. If you follow the YouTube links, there are other similar performances but this is by far the most professional. We're completely baffled. Link

REAL TETRIS
If all the world's electricity suddenly ran out, at least we'd still be able to play Tetris. Well, sort of. Take a look at this bizarre video. Link

MARIO LAPTOP
How to use a laser etcher to turn a cheap laptop into a one-off special edition. It's like a licence to print money on eBay - or at least it would have been if the creator of this bit of art hadn't let the cat out of the bag. Link

ZELDA CROSS STITCH
Pixel art rendered in actual bits of string and cloth. It's the overworld map from Zelda on the SNES and it's such an epic undertaking that we wouldn't be surprised to find its creator had been working on it since the game was first released all those years ago. Link

Wii SPIRIT LEVEL
Keep fit - check. Train your brain - check. Help you hang a picture straight - yes, that too, thanks to this inventive bit of homebrew code. Link

LIVE ACTION MARIO
From Japanese TV, a re-creation of a Super Mario Bros level that takes a turn for the surreal before the halfway mark. Cleverly done. Link

GOLDENEYE SOURCE
Seemingly in development for years, this fan-made PC update of the classic N64 game is nearing completion. Well, it'll be available some time in 2009 anyway. Unless 007's lawyers crush it, it'll be the only high-res GoldenEye you're ever likely to play. Link

DONKEY QUILT
You wouldn't want to wash this one with your white tea linen. Lovely colour, far too expensive to trust to a machine, and a one-off that's already been sold. Keep an eye on the artist's Etsy page to see if any similar designs crop up. Link
