Infinity Ward has started work on a massively multiplayer online game, possibly set in the Call of Duty universe, it's been reported.
The Modern Warfare developer is said to be calling in the help of ex-World of WarCraft and EverQuest II devs - including the latter's lead designer - to help get is first MMO game off the ground.
According to Destructoid's sources, Infinity Ward's MMO is planned to run alongside continued annual instalments of the Call of Duty single-player series, though it's not yet clear if the online game itself is involved with CoD.
Rumours of the FPS series going to MMO land have been circulating for a while, and Activision's certainly keen to replicate some of Blizzard's subscription profits with its other big series.
Would it work? If we're talking more in the style of Unreal Tournament and less Eve Online then we reckon so, yes.
