Twilight video game absence has 'cost millions'

Analyst reckons game tie-in would have raked in the cash

The lack of a Twilight video game has wasted the opportunity to make "millions", according to analysts.

Speaking to MCV Magazine this week, Games Investor Consulting analyst Nick Gibson said:

"Given how hot a property it is, [a Twilight video game] could easily present a seven-figure exploitation opportunity, especially if publishers consider taking it beyond retail gaming and considers network gaming," said

"It may well be that the rights holders aren't aware of the potential benefits because they haven't explored the games market before."

There has been no word on a standalone Twilight video game from any publisher up to now. If created, Gibson said it could find a huge market with female gamers - particularity on Wii and DS.

There is one Twilight video game available, however - Konami's themed Scene It?, which hits the UK today. Reports have also said that BrainJunk Studios has acquired the licence to make a Twilight video game.

Twilight: New Moon is released on DVD on March 22nd, while the third film in the series, Eclipse, is due to reach cinemas later this year.

Well, I'm sure it would make money in the same way the Harry Potter games do. I don't think many gaming fans will lose any sleep over the absence of a Twilight game, though.

I must admit, one of the most nauseating things I've had to endure recently was - whilst on a train - having to listen to two over-excitable Twilight fangirls.

    'Oh, he's so lovely...'
'Yes, but it's not just his body or looks....he's also a beautiful person'

    Ewwwwwwwww.....

I've not seen it, nor read it.

I know it's probably a little unfair to judge it on such little first-hand experience, but it looks like utter, utter garbage....worse than Harry Potter.

    :)

Well we're not 12 year old girls here so I think you'll find that we ALL hate it lol. True Blood on the other hand... What a great game that would be... SOOKIE IS MINE!

i'd love a twilight game. But only if Konami made it and also stared Simon Belmont as the main protagonist.

Ive watched the movies... read the books... Not because im into that stuff, purely just for the read etc.. Books are okay, Movies are okay.. but they should of left twilight with one book, one movie.

Everything after the original book and movie is just MEHHH, SRSLY?!!?!

Exactly. When video games based on really good movies are crap, why would anyone want a games based on a crappy movie/novel?

Press A to stare longingly at his perfectly beautiful face for 2 hours.

    Oh, can I? Hell no.

I'm not really sure that the Sookie Stackhouse stories would make good games either though. It's about the relationship between the characters rather than the action, so you could just be asking for trouble there.

The novel series I reckon would work as video games (even though the really good TV series got axed) is the Dresden Files. If you haven't already checked them out I reckon you should. Contemporary wizards and fantasy and comedy = win.

LOST tried with games, Prison Break too..
Those have some form of action within them and even those failed quite hard.

TrueBlood / Twilight / Vampire Stories, ..just are not game content.

Maybe for teens.. but then you run the risk of "will we get enough units to sell to make a profit".

And usually it takes a good million+ to make a good game. So you'd still lose.

I was kidding :) You're right, it's all about the characters.

A decent vampire game should be made though, if it were set in the middle ages and kind of like Thief and Splinter Cell... Sneaking around, biting sleeping maidens, seducing people, battling vampire hunters... Yeah... It has the potential I say :D

Opportunity missed? I for one am thankful for this too. The movies thus far have been 'ok' (and certainly nothing more - I still fail to see the obsession), but just what exactly could they put into a video game of it?

On a related note, I have a fair few female friends, most around the 30 mark. If Twilight is aimed or appreciated by 12 year old girls, can someone explain to me why these movies make said girly friends f*cking nuts? After watching New Moon with my girlfriend and her mate, her mate actually had a 15 minute go at me about my entire gender being incapable of empathy like a woman - all because of that damn movie.

And for that reason, I bloody hate Twilight.

    And Buffy stakes Edward...the end.

I have a female friend on Facebook who joined s group called 'Twilight has given me a too high perception of men'. Or something along those lines. Yeah, that's right. We are not pussy-ass vampires for a start. Chock full of fans too.

Twilight seems to get the sad single 35 year old women all gooey too. Usually the ones who can't find a bloke of their own. The fantasies they must have... *snigger*

    Anyway, f**king detest Twilight!

I don't get how Twilight is so popular its message is setting the f**king womans rights movement back decades.

Its ok ladies all you need is a dreamy man to look after you and everything will be all right.

It beggers belief. For the love of god if someone says they want to read a good vampire novel. hand them dracula or interview with a vampire.

I'm preposing a mass book burning of twilight not becasue its an affront to any kind of god. just good taste, human intelligence and western folklore.

yeah that one was good too.

Anne Rice in general are alright. She goes a little feminist at times but at least she can actually write and does her research.

I never found twilight or new moon very interesting the story couldn't support a video game. Only thing they are good for is making teenage girls panties moist... But I'm sure it would do well if they made half baked games like harry potter and current lord of lord of the rings games.

Took the words right out my mouth mate. Do we need another dodgy movie tie-in... unless Activision made it of course, then it would be Goldeneye x20 on acid with a strap on in the dining room.

I thought this was David Cage's new game he's working on:
Press X to sigh 'Edward' while shopping
hold O,L1,R1 and X to write about Edward
press R2 to think about Edward

In all fairness, what they've lost in revenue, we've gained in sanity

Agreed. I think Memnoch The Devil shows the depth of her research. That was a very well-written, well-structured story.

I'd definitely recommend Rice over Poppy Z. Brite, at any rate...

Was about to post 'exploitation' myself when I saw this post. Absolutely bang on. Still, at east he's admitting that's exactly what it is rather than trying to pretend its for the true enjoyment of gamers. There might be one, be I can't off the top of my head think of one film tie-in game that I've thought was any good.

  28. I_Killed_Kenny on 19 Mar '10 said:

Thank god, this would have been with the very worst of movie tie-in games.

My girlfriend broke up with me because when she was talking about edward (the main guy), I made the point that he can't get an erection, so he couldn't have a baby etc

She cried, I am now single, but I think this was a lucky escape for me.

Back to the point, if they make a vampire game it should be like assassin's creed, though more emphasis on stealth.

Can I just point you all to Vampire the Masquerade Redemption and the even better Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines....all you've asked for and more.
You can fight your way through with guns, swords, chainsaws, sneak past your enemies or even better...hypnotise them to come to you then suck the life out of them, a particularly hilarious trick when you power that skill up.
Also lots of very enticing maidens to suck on to recharge the old health bar...you can suck on guys too if that's your game. Redemption was a 15 and Bloodlines was an 18 so you won't get them in Switzerland or Ozz 8) I'm sure there's a vampire hunter in there too.

Twi$hite has ruined the vampire mythos, utterly pi$$ed in the face of proper books and a videogame would only ruin video games themselves. I don't believe in god but if there is one he just made himself known by not making Twi$hite into a videogame.
