Reggie Fils-Aime believes that the time is right to launch the new Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo announced the 3DS soon after the launch of DSi XL but according to Nintendo's US boss they're only launching it in the next year because they have ideas for games that can't be achieved on DS.
"We have ideas of what we want to bring to the consumer that we can't do with the current DS model," said Reggie. "The Nintendo 3DS for us is our next handheld platform."
He also reiterated his belief that new hardware is only necessary when new games can't be created on a current syste. "Fundamentally, this business is about software, not hardware. Software is what drives engagement by the consumer. For us technology is not the end, it's the means to an end, which is around a great consumer experience."
