Natal, Move 'not ideal for racers'

SBK X dev says new motion devices are probably too imprecise

The game director of SBK X Superbike World Championship has claimed it is unlikely that Project Natal and PlayStation Move will play a major role in future racing titles.

In an interview with CVG, we asked Mileston Studio's Michele Celetti how he saw Natal and Move fitting into racing games in future.

He replied: "It's hard to say if motion technologies will play a great role for a racing game in the immediate future. I think [they] will be more focused on some different kinds of games like shooters and family games."

"Racers need very tight control," he added. "It's immersive but it has to be very precise. There is no possible compromise, because if you play SBK X in full simulation there is no room for mistakes or imprecise control."

Celetti was much more confident about the impact of 3D on the future of gaming: "3D is going to be a real blast and we are really looking forward to it," he said.

"I think it will be successful in gaming because, having tried some similar applications, I can say it makes a huge difference."
