Obsidian does Dungeon Siege 3

Square Enix and Gas Powered on board for first console instalment

Obsidian Entertainment is developing Dungeon Siege 3 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, new publisher Square Enix has just announced.

Under the supervision of original developer, Gas Powered Games and Chris Taylor, Dungeon Siege 3 will retain "the best features" of past series entries, while introducing a co-op mode with support for up to four players.

The new game will take place in "an immersive world where every decision you make has a consequence", the publisher says, combining "intuitive action gameplay" with the series' traditional RPG elements.

The game comes as part of Square Enix's new strategy to expand its roster of Western developers and games, it says.

"It Is an Honor and a pleasure to Be part of the legend of Dungeon Siege," Said Obsidian boss, Feargus Urquhart.

"This partnership with Square Enix is a milestone for the franchise and Obsidian, and the qualities of two companies in terms of scenario will be visible throughout the game."
