2K is planning to release more DLC for Bioshock 2 over the next year - and has admitted that 2K Marin may not develop future iterations of the series.
Speaking in Take Two's Q2 earnings call last night, company boss Strauss Zelnick said that Bioshock is "one of the most important franchises in the industry".
2K Marin - which created Bioshock 2 - is currently beavering away on the new update of X-Com, which is due on Xbox 360.
"2K Marin is working on X-Com," said Zelnick. "As relates to Bioshock, we think Bioshock is still one for the most important franchises in the industry. We do intend to support it. It doesn't necessarily have to be 2K Marin, but we do have to support the franchise.
"First and foremost we're focussed on downloadable content - we intend to continue to support Bioshock 2 with further downloadable content. We think the franchise has a long life indeed."
