BioWare 'hasn't even discussed' Old Republic on console

"I have no idea if it's possible," says lead designer

BioWare hasn't "even discussed" bringing Star Wars MMO, The Old Republic to consoles, says lead designer and storywriter, Daniel Erickson.

Speaking to CVG in a recent interview, the BioWare man said there's definitely no one at the company currently tinkering away on an Xbox and PS3 version of the title.

"I have no idea if it's possible," Erickson said of a console version. "I'd have to ask our tech director.

"I can tell you that it's not anything that we've even discussed," he said. "There is no-body anywhere in Bioware laying the groundwork for that because we have a very large complicated game to ship first."

According to the lead designer there's a reason Old Republic and others start life on PC - because it's the "natural" platform for RPGs.

"We all know the drawbacks of PC. We all scream at our boxes and try to make stuff work. But at the same time, the interface is made for games," he said. "The mouse/keyboard interface allows so much less restriction [than console].

"There was not a question when we started Old Republic - or any of our games, for that matter - [what the lead format would be]. There's a reason the lead SKU for Dragon age was PC as well. When we're developing an RPG, it's a natural place to be."

In the same interview Daniel Erickson told CVG that Old Republic's stupidly ambitious conversation system - which is fully voiced throughout the MMO - is "totally inked from Mass Effect".
