Splinter Cell passes 1.9 million, Ubisoft sales soar 93%

Just Dance, Assassin's Creed 2 and Avatar also propping up figures

It wasn't all bad news from Ubisoft's Q1 fiscal results. The firm's confirmed that Splinter Cell Conviction has passed the 1.9million shipped mark, helping boost the company's sales up 93% over last year.

Ubi says that estimated sales for the first quarter totaled €160 million, which is up 93% compared with the €83 million recorded for the first quarter 2009-10.

"Our sales performance this quarter reflects the success of several titles and attests to the quality of our game catalog. It's proof of Ubisoft's ability to make its mark in an ever demanding video games sector."

This was helped along by the "sustained sales" of titles like Assassin's Creed 2, Just Dance and Avatar. Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot seems pleased: "Our sales performance this quarter reflects the success of several titles and attests to the quality of our game catalog. It's proof of Ubisoft's ability to make its mark in an ever demanding video games sector."

He went on: "This year's E3 further confirmed the potential for our end-of-year line-up, demonstrating how varied and distinct our offering is. Proven franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Driver or Ghost Recon will offer unique experiences for seasoned gamers."

Guillemot also revealed that pre-orders of Assassin's Creed 3 are "the strongest ever seen".
