Valve on PS3 3D: 'We'll wait for Portal 3'

Developer says internal PlayStation team will deliver 'highest quality'

Valve has ruled out 3D support for Portal 2 on PS3 - teasing that it will "have to wait for Portal 3" if it wants to implement the tech in one of its games.

The Half-Life creator is now free to openly discuss its support for Sony's platform - after boss Gabe Newell revealed at E3 that the "best version" of Portal 2 "on any console" would be released on the system next year.

Valve marketing boss Doug Lombardi told the September issue of PSM3 that the studio feels ready to right the wrongs of its past when it comes to PS3 - including its sub-par port of EA's The Orange Box.

"[Having a dedicated PS3 team] allows us to build our PS3 products internally, which we feel is critical for delivering the highest quality version of our products," said Lombardi - who once referred to the PS3 Orange Box as the "stepchild" release.

Lombardi reiterated that Portal would not be getting PlayStation Move or 3D support.

"[Move and 3D] will have to wait for Portal 3 or another title," he added. "We won't be supporting those in Portal 2."

When asked if Valve may now bring classic titles such as Left 4 Dead to PS3, Lombardi commented: "Who knows what the future will bring?"

The big tease.

Portal 2 is due for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next year.
