EA has quietly confirmed Need for Speed: Shift 2 via a press release detailing its Q1 financial results.
The game sits snugly in a release schedule within the document, listed for release on PC and consoles during the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2011.
To normals, that means the game will be out in the first three months of next calendar year (Jan-March 2011).
The sequel was first outed by a couple of Linkedin CVs, which both stated they had partaken in work on the then unannounced title. One said they developed "fiction and characters" for the game, suggesting the possibility of a new story-driven focus for the game's main career mode.
That's all we know for now but we'll be listening in on the live webcast of EA investor call in a few moments - hopefully more will come out of that.
Check back for updates.
