Sonic Colours for the Wii will feature a multi-player co-op mode but it won't star the hedgehog as we know him.
As with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, you'll be able to play the hog's new Wii adventure with a friend but unlike the plumber's platformer you won't be able to play as the hog himself. Instead you play as different coloured robot versions of Sonic as you rush through levels that have been especially designed for two players.
What's more, this mode won't be available from the beginning - you'll have to unlock the stages by finding secret rings in the main adventure.
The main aim of the co-op mode is to combine your Wisp abilities in order to find secrets and survive. For example, when you come across blocks that you need to pass to reach rings or a goal, you can work together by setting off the laser and drill power-ups at the same time to create a super-laser drill.
Although you'll be working together to complete the levels - cooperating to use the laser or drill abilities - you will also be competing as you attempt to collect more rings than your friend.
