"Let's put it this way: I wouldn't go back to play it again."
That's GoldenEye Wii producer Julian Widdows' verdict on the original N64 title.
Don't take that the wrong way, though - Widdows still has all kinds of love for the original GoldenEye. But his team couldn't wait to update some aspects of Rare's classic FPS.
"It was a case of saying, 'OK, what can't come forwards? What doesn't stand the test of time?' The narrative doesn't really stand the test of time in its purest form; it does feel very '90s," Widdows told Edge.
"Daniel Craig's Bond is now more relevant and contemporary, so we had to bring that up to date."
"It's an evolutionary medium and we keep building on the success of previous games," he explained.
"It's still a great game and I think structurally it still has things that contemporary games tend not to have."
"I don't ever want to tarnish my memory of GoldenEye; I have such amazingly fond memories of it."
A new GoldenEye trailer was released last week showing off the game's multiplayer modes and mod options. Go and have a look if you haven't already.
