Battle.net project director Greg Canessa has hinted that the first StarCraft II expansion, Heart of the Swarm, may not be released until early 2012.
Discussing future Battle.net features like trading and broadcasting replays at GDC Online, he said such updates were "a main area of focus we're going to be seeing on the StarCraft [II] side over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm".
That would suggest a release of around April 2012 for the Zerg-focused instalment, GameSpot reports.
A Blizzard rep told the site that there is no announced release timeframe for Heart of the Swarm, which won't be shown off at Blizzcon later this month.
Blizzard said yesterday that it is working on a patch to tweak the balancing of StarCraft II's races. It will "primarily focus on improving the Zerg", which is the least used of the game's races and doesn't have a great win percentage.
