Sega Europe rep Izaskun Urretabizkaia has reportedly revealed that a brand new Sonic game is being developed to coincide with the blue blur's 20th anniversary.
The title - currently being referred to as Sonic Anniversary - has not been officially confirmed by Sega yet, but according to Destructoid translations it will feature remakes of levels from older Sonic the Hedgehog games.
The update aims to bring classic titles fans of the series will be familiar with to the current generation of consoles complete with all the lavish trimmings. According to the report, levels will be a mixture of 2D and 3D environments.
Earlier this week Sega US sales and marketing man Alan Pritchard said the company is guilty of "bringing too many Sonic games to market too quickly."
Yesterday Sonic Colours producer Takashi Iizuka has said that Sega has made design changes to the Sonic format in a bid to appeal to Mario fans.
