Square Enix has agreed to extend the period in which fans can play Final Fantasy XIV for free - due to "the current state of the game".

A statement from Square posted yesterday read: "For those who purchased the collector's edition and began to play one week before official service began, the month-long free play period is drawing to a close.
"Considering the nature of much of the feedback we received, however, and the current state of the game, we have decided to extend the free trial period for all users."
The free trial extension gives all players another 30 days before payment - and will do doubt be used by the publisher to update the game to remedy some of its biggest issues.

No way will they fix the problems with the game in 30 days ....
A year maybe ... but not 30 days ...
A lot of stuff is going to requuire a massive overhaul ... Fair enough SquEnix are at least holding their hands up , but giving people another free 30 days is pathetic ... People have still paid £30 or there abouts to play the game free for the first 30 days ... .
The game is so pathetic I wouldn't even use the DVD to prop open a door ...

There's a Big rumour that TwoWorlds 2 (which is looking really really good) has got a MMO feature and that it's suppose to be really good but the developer and publisher are keeping it underwraps. So if this is true I'll be playing that instead of final fantasy 14.

I'll wait for "Guild Wars 2" which is set to arrive sometime in 2011 (fingers crossed). Just like "Guild Wars 1" it will be subscription free. One of the root causes for my aversion to MMOs, is their monthly subscription fees coupled with the fact that if something goes wrong with their servers, etc. you've got a paperweight and nothing more from the game you purchased. A sucker may be born every minute, but I won't be one of them in regards to things like this!

Honestly, the problems with the game aren`t as bad as people are making out. The fixes required are really quite simple and could be solved easily (the main bugbears being lack of an auction house, lack of transport, lack of menu hotkeys and general performance). I`d have gladly paid anyway, but if Square are giving us free time then so be it...

for me the games unplayable, far too much chug, takes literaly roughly 5mins for a room to populate, the controls and interface might be better on console but is very confusing on PC. i knew it was going to be bad but not unplayable.

4/10? Sounds like the score they should have given FFXIII.

And it will stay free till they shut down the servers and post and APB about it.

I was in the beta and it's a seriously broken/unfinished game in regards to the management side of the experience. Plus well it's just plain boring. Only said to someone very recently how it needed about another year maybe longer in development before being released.
Guild Wars 2 does look good I must say, so will give that a try if they have a trial/beta. Had enough of WoW now so highly doubtful I'll go back to that.

They might not even get this running on console, unless they can get around the memory limitations which they have recently started to bemoan although they already knew the limitations when they announced the game.
SE are just seem to be getting worse with their offerings, maybe VS XIII will address some of this.

its a horrid game..4.0 is an accurate score if not less.
i've played alot of mmo's in my time (even the matrix - yes youtube that and see how bad that was!!)
problems:
- game engine is awful..requires a god like pc to run it.
- account management requires alot of patience to navigate.
- unfriendly ingame UI.
- poor ingame guidance - found myself giving up and just asking someone higher level to show me around.
- insanely poor lag - even on empty servers.
i could break down each of the above..but the list would be massive.

i wouldn't hold your breath.
on the plus side the last story will be out on the wii within the next 8 months so i'd advise old school FF fans to look in that direction for a bit of quality jrpg shenanigans that is actually trying something new with the combat (though i still love traditional turn based FF's).
imo,FF is one more poor release away from retail obscurity and then it's over. i don't think square will ever do something on the level of FFVI,mana or chrono trigger again tbh.
over to you mistwalker.

Shame I haven't got a Wii as Last Story sounds great, VS XIII looks a lot more like a "proper" JRPG/RPG rather than the on rails offerings of XIII. I agree Mistwalker are looking like overtaking SE completely in the RPG stakes if SE dont do something soon.
