Kinect to be sold at a profit

MS priced device to make money from launch

Kinect will turn a profit from launch next month, according to Don Mattrick, the boss of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business.

Having invested hundreds of millions of dollars developing the device, the company presumably wanted to start making its cash back as soon as possible, reports the New York Times.

Kinect's standalone price of £129.99 caused something of a stir when it was announced in late July, but Microsoft expects the camera peripheral to be a runaway success regardless.

After taking nearly four years to break even with PS3, Sony made a similar decision to price - the admittedly cheaper - PlayStation Move to make a profit from release.
