Hitman and Kane & Lynch developer IO Interactive has let around 30 staff go after reportedly cancelling an in-development project.
Whether that game is Hitman 5 or - as rumours suggest - a secret project for Microsoft is unclear.
We're hoping its not the former, as last month Agent 47 voice actor David Bateson told gamers to brace themselves for a "gob smacking" next entry in the series.
In a prepared statement issued to Develop, IO Interactive general manager Niels Jørgensen said: "I can confirm that we have made some internal changes at IO Interactive which has regrettably resulted in the loss of some jobs."
He added: "This is a natural part of any studio's existence when you ramp-up and ramp-down on projects to ensure you have the right level of resource and expertise within the studio. We genuinely wish those who have been affected by this, the best of luck for the future."
