New Timesplitters in discussion at Crytek

Developer talking with publishers about series reboot

Timesplitters could be set to make a welcome return if reported discussions between Crytek and numerous publishers go the way we all hope.

Managing director Karl Hilton has revealed the firm is "talking to publishers at the moment about whether [TimeSplitters is] a viable route or not."

The firm is weighing its options whether to create a new TS game or go with a new IP altogether. "There hasn't been a TimeSplitters game for quite a while," explained Hilton to EG. "Obviously TimeSplitters is a FPS with a strong multiplayer element. The question is, is that the way to go with another one, or should it go down a different route, or should we be developing a new IP altogether?

"It's down to us talking to publishers about what their interest is and where they see it going. If they're keen for a TS game, then we'd be happy to do one. If they'd like us to develop something new then we'd do that.

It's sounding promising, too. "Talking to publishers, everyone is aware of TimeSplitters. It's got a brand awareness that's really good. Its success in different markets was quite variable. So depending on who you talk to, they either look at it as a really successful product or as a product that was almost successful but could have done better."

A Timesplitters 4 was thought to have been in development but was canned as the then-named Free Radical Design transitioned into Crytek. Hopefully this could be the series return we've been waiting for.

I honestly cannot see where either game would fit in today's gaming climate. They both triumphed in the time before console online play, when console shooters were poor compared to their PC counterparts. Leave them be.

New Timesplitters hell yes. We need a shooter with a bit more soul to it than the endless procession of space marines and military shooters we've been getting. Bring Back the Monkeys.

The world needs another Timesplitters, its as simple as that. God I loved Timesplitters 2. And you know what? A new one would have to have zombies in it. Yeah, thats right, zombie monkeys, zombie calamari, zombie cowboys, zombie f*ckin everything. They could even include a zombie bitch that whinged like a little bitch about zombies being in everything. I'm well up for it.

Didn't they do zombies 1st in timesplitters?
The behead the undead challenge was great............. just get a shot gun and away you go!
If they can recapture TS2 fun then yes make another, if its like the third, leave it well alone.
Bouncing bullets rule! (When playing TS2 multi-player if you weren't doing very well, the best option was to fire as many of those bad boys as possible filling the room with them (and stretching the PS2 to its limit))

How about a sequel to second sight? I loved that game. I thought timesplitters 4 was under development but got put on the back burner due to the takeover and stuff. I guess they must have canned that and are pitching some sort of reboot.

Yes, but when your handed a concept with potential people tend to relax and ruin it.

Please dont ruin it, i'll buy it anyway.

2 was brilliant. I remember the zombie modes in that too. Great to play 2 player co-op also. Worked really well.

Timesplitters 2was ace. still my favourite FPS. So solid, excellent damage balancing between weapons, great challenges. Managed to get a platinum on EVERYTHING on that game, completed all story modes with all extras. if only achievements were around then lol

I challenge any CoD dweeb to try a real shooter that takes serious skill to complete 100%.

Timesplitter 3 had minor issues in my eyes, I thought the story was fantastic where you end up helping yourself in battles from both perspectives in a straight time line, eg, giving yourself the key to a gate, shooting the helicopter from 2 angles on the train, the portal etc. absolutely amazing value. The challenge I remember being a right pain was the one with the right hand men with tommy guns and you gotta kills loads of em and you only get minimal lives, (1 i think.) Had to (if you were good enough) make your way past loads of em, downstairs and to the entrance where you could find duel tommy guns, was your only chance! a real biotch!

I'd welcome Timesplitters 4 with welcome arms, but dont take it seriously, the humour in the series is what made the game so much fun. and with the array of characters, weapons and multplayer options that Timesplitters have, and for what it is known for (IMO), they could make some fantastic achievement combinations.

    in short, PLEASE!!!!!!

In the day of dull, rinse and repeat shooters we definitely need TimeSplitters to return.

Hell it would probably end the awful and crowded chav simulators.
