CoD brand more important than the developer

Series itself now bigger than any one studio, says analyst

Call of Duty: Black Ops' massive day one success has proven that the CoD franchise is much bigger than any one developer.


That's according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, who said today that a potential 2011 CoD game from Infinity Ward would be a nailed on success.

"We believe the title's strong start validates our view that the Call of Duty franchise brand has become more important than the studio behind any individual title, increasing our conviction that Call of Duty can be successful again in 2011 despite the personnel departures from developer Infinity Ward earlier this year."

Earlier today, Activision said that Black Ops had beaten Modern Warfare 2's day one sales total, becoming the biggest entertainment launch of all time.

Series creator infinity Ward is expected to launch Modern Warfare 3 next year. A Sledgehammer developed CoD game set in the future and an online CoD game for the Chinese market are also thought to be in the works.
